The molecular structure of AKB48.

AKB48 or N-adamantyl-1-pentylindazole-3-carboxamide is a designer drug that acts as a potent cannabinoid receptor full agonist at both the CB1 and CB2 receptors. It has been found as an ingredient in synthetic cannabis smoking blends. Although its name would suggest that it is Japanese in origin, AKB48 appears to have originated in Thailand. No information has yet been published on its receptor binding or pharmacological profile, but it is structurally related to compounds such as AM-1248, 2NE1, STS-135, and AB-001, which are known to be potent cannabinoid agonists.
