The Basics

Butylone
bk-MBDB; b1; Butylone powder
  Butylone (bk-MBDB; B1; bk-methyl-J; Methylbenzodioxolylpropylamine

Butylone is cathinone, amphetamine, and phenethylamine, and is a direct analog of MBDB. Only differing from its' amphetamine counterpart by a single double bonded oxygen atom at the beta position of the amphetamine backbone, also making it a cathinone/Beta-ketone substituted amphetamine. Butylone nor MBDB are controlled substances in North America. One should also strongly note: despite the similarities, butylone and mbdb have (objectively) completely opposite effects profiles, and one should not mistake or substitute one for the other, they are not the same drug.

Introduction and Basic Description

Butylone is a synthetic entheogen, with primarily stimulating, empathogenic & entactogenic qualities. Many users find little to zero effects from this drug, while others are sensitive in doses as low as 100 mg or less.

Timeline of Experience

Onset - T:+0.00 (25-45 minutes)

Peak - T:+0.55

Plateau - T:+1.10-2.15

Afterglow - T:+2.25-4.5

End of Experience - T:+3.00-4.50

After Effects - T:+5.00-48.00^

Effects

Positive: The effects of butylone are entheogenic, similar to (but less potent than) drugs like MDMA, MBDB, Methylone, MDA, and MDEA; while causing a non-entheogenic functional stimulation as well. Users report feelings of euphoria (or dysphoria, which is not common, but has been reported); increased energy/rushing; stimulation; feelings of empathy and forgiveness; increased appreciation of audio, with tactile enhancements; auditory hallucinations/distortions/stimulation, including a "rushing" sound & tinnitus; cannabinomimetic head space/shift in perception

Negatives (More likely to happen or worsen upon redosing, binging, habituation, increased dosages); diminished perception of need for hydration, sleep or food; dehydration/hyponatremia; Increased heart rate/tachycardia/chest flutters; sweating; paranoia; panic; delusions; bruxism; complete lack of coordination/impaired cognition; teeth grinding; muscle tension/ache; hangover; panic; anxiety

Contraindications and Overdose

Pharmaceutical SSRI/SNRI/DRI/NDRI anti-depressants drastically reduce the effects of this drug. Do not combine with MAOIs, TCAs or other psychiatric medications. This will increase your risk of falling victim to something like seretonin syndrome, or depending on the medication/individual, combined use with bk-mbdb could injure or kill (though no deaths have been reported) the user. Proceed with caution when mixing any psychiatric medication with any and everything.

Negative Short-Term Side Effects

Lingering mental haziness/ effects for (in uncommon cases) 12-48+ hours post-experience Slightly impaired mental cognition and short term memory

Legal Issues

Butylone is legal in most countries world-wide.

Background and Chemistry

butylone
Bk- MBDB; Bk-Methyl-J; Bk-Eden

bk-MBDB is a direct analog of MBDB and is its' beta-ketone counterpart to MBDB.

bk-MBDB is closely related to eutylone, MBDB, EBDB, BDB cathinone, phenethylamine & other similar Shulgin amphetamine compounds.

Eden
MBDB; Methyl-J; Eden

History of Drug

Koeppe, Ludwig and Zeile pioneered the first synthesis of butylone in 1967. Butylone became available for purchase online some time around 2005, and gained in popularity for the next few years as a research chemical, and became widely available mid-late 2010/early 2011 when synthetic stimulant abuse skyrocketed

Pharmacology

There is no conclusive data on the pharmacology of BK-mbdb.
