Mod:Create a poll

From BLWiki
Jump to: navigation, search

On occasions, a thread might benefit from the creation of a poll. Bluelighters do not have the ability to create a poll and it must be done by one of the forum moderators.

If it becomes clear that a thread would benefit from a poll, there are two methods of achieving this:

Method 1

Please note: This method is the preferred method for moderators. If you are unable to see the "Add a poll to this thread" option, please inform your Administrator.

  • In the thread that requires a poll, click on "Thread Tools"
  • Click on "Add a poll to this thread"
  • Follow the red text in Method 2.

Method 2

This is an older method of creating a poll that is now no longer necessary with account tweaks that have been performed

  • Create a new thread.
  • Entitle the thread "Poll" and add the words "poll added" into the text box.

  • Scroll down to the options beneath the text box.
  • In the "Post a Poll" section, click on the tickbox and specify how many options you want the poll to have (this can be changed in the next step if you are unsure).
  • Click "Submit New Thread"

  • Complete the poll question.
  • Update the number of options you require (if necessary).
  • Specify each option.
  • Specify if you wish the poll to have a time limit set on it, or if you want it to be open-ended.
  • Allow or disallow multiple choices (if appropriate for your poll).
  • Specify if it is a public or private poll.
  • When done, click on "Submit New Poll".

  • Come out of your new thread and go to the forum display page.
  • Using the tickboxes on the far right-hand side, select the original thread that required a poll and your newly created thread that contains a poll.
  • Now click the "Moderation" menu at the bottom of the screen (you may have to scroll down the page in order to find it).
  • Click on "Merge Threads".
  • The "Go" button should now display the number of threads that have been selected. Click "Go".

  • You will now see the "Merge Threads" screen. As your thread will be the newer thread, there is no need to change the 'Destination Thread' option.
  • Select "No" for redirects.
  • Press "Merge Threads" and the threads will be merged.
